Exxon restarting Louisiana refineries after Gustav

NEW YORK, Sept 5 (Reuters) - Exxon Mobil (XOM.N) said on Friday it began restarting its oil refineries in Baton Rouge and Chalmette, Louisiana, after both plants were shut for days by Hurricane Gustav.

"The Baton Rouge Refinery and Chalmette Refining began a safe and sequenced start-up process on 5 September," the company said in a press release. "It is anticipated that additional units will restart throughout the weekend as we work to bring the facilities back to normal operations."

The Baton Rouge plant is the second largest in the country with a capacity of 503,000 barrels per day. The joint venture Chalmette refinery has a capacity of 193,000 bpd.
