Six versions of ICub exist in laboratories across Europe, where scientists are painstakingly tweaking its electronic brain to make it capable of learning, just like a human child and hoping it will learn how to adapt its behaviour to changing circumstances, offering new insights into the development of human consciousness. The talks were described as "preliminary" and come after sources familiar with the discussion told Reuters last week that the major labels had held similar talks with MySpace, the leading social network site owned by News Corp NWSa.N.

Privately held Facebook and the four major music companies -- Universal Music Group (VIV.PA), Sony BMG Music Entertainment (6758.T), Warner Music Group (WMG.N), and EMI Group -- were not immediately available for comment.
