CALGARY, Alberta, Oct 8 (Reuters) - Imperial Oil Ltd (IMO.TO) said on Wednesday it is apportioning diesel supplies to commercial customers in Western Canada as its looks to begin work on an atmospheric tower at its Strathcona refinery near Edmonton, Alberta.

The company, which operates Canada's largest network of refineries, said rationing began in late September and is expected to last "weeks rather than months."

Pius Rolheiser, a spokesman for the company, said gasoline supplies have not been affected by the planned maintenance at the refinery. (Reporting by Scott Haggett; editing by Rob Wilson)
