Globe and Mail aims to cut 80 jobs, publisher says

TORONTO, Jan 9 (Reuters) - Canada's Globe and Mail plans to use voluntary severance and layoffs to cut 80 jobs, or about 10 percent of its workforce, as the national daily newspaper copes with a slowdown in the advertising market, its publisher said on Friday.

"We're waiting to see what the response is to the voluntary severance program," Phillip Crawley said in an interview, adding this should take about three weeks. "We have to wait and see who steps up and takes the offer, because that will then determine what we will do in terms of layoffs." (Reporting by Wojtek Dabrowski; editing by Rob Wilson)
