MIAMI (Reuters) - Tampa Bay Rays designated hitter Cliff Floyd joined the American League team's growing disabled list on Wednesday with a knee injury.

    Sports

Floyd was placed on the 15-day recovery list after suffering a medial tear in his right knee and will undergo surgery on Friday, the team said on its Web site (tampabay.rays.mlb.com).

The 35-year-old joins injured starting pitchers Scott Kazmir and Matt Garza, catcher Dioner Navarro and shortstop Ben Zobrist on the sidelines.

Tampa have recalled outfielder Justin Ruggiano from Triple-A Durham to replace Floyd and also expected Durham team mate Ryu Jae-kuk to take Garza's place on the roster in time for Wednesday's game against Seattle.
