    Pamela Anderson's ex-husbands in scuffle

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Police in Las Vegas have cited recording star Kid Rock, former husband of actress Pamela Anderson, for suspicion of battery after a weekend scuffle at the MTV Video Music Awards between him and rocker Tommy Lee, another ex-spouse of Anderson.

The two men got into a fight while singer Alicia Keys was performing during the two-hour show on Sunday.

"There were no fists, they were just holding each other, grabbing each other," Tom Higginson, singer of the pop band Plain White Ts, told Reuters. "Security had to break them up."

Las Vegas police said on Monday that Rock, whose real name is Robert Ritchie, was cited for misdemeanor battery after investigators determined from interviews with both men and eyewitness accounts that Rock was the instigator.

"He was deemed to be the primary aggressor," police spokesman Bill Castle said, explaining why only Rock was given a citation. There was no information about what triggered the scuffle.

MTV posted a short video clip of some of the altercation, showing Rock and Lee being pulled apart by security guards as they shout at one another, but what the two men said was inaudible on the tape.

The fight elicted on-air comments from two of the awards show's celebrity announcers, Jamie Foxx and Sean "Diddy" Combs, during the MTV telecast, with Combs joking from the audience: "We gotta stop the violence in rock and roll."

Rock will have to appear in court in three to five weeks to enter a plea, Castle said.

Representatives for Rock, 36, and Lee, 43, could not immediately be reached for comment.

Rock and Anderson filed for divorce last November after four months of marriage.

Lee, the drummer of the band Motley Crue, and Anderson have two children from their marriage. They divorced in 1998.

Rock had another run-in with the law in March, when a Michigan woman claimed she was roughed up by the singer-rapper after meeting him at a bar.

Michigan prosecutors decided there was not enough evidence to charge Rock, and the case was dismissed.
