White House condemns bomb attacks in Algeria

WASHINGTON, Dec 11 (Reuters) - The White House on Tuesday condemned a car bombing on a U.N. office in Algeria, saying the attackers were "enemies of humanity."

At least 47 people were killed when two car bombs exploded in upscale districts of Algiers, the bloodiest attack since the 1990s on the capital of the OPEC member state.

"We condemn this attack on the United Nations office by these enemies of humanity who attack the innocent," White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe said. "The United States stands with the people of Algeira, as well as the United Nations as they deal with this senseless violence."

He said President George W. Bush and his wife Laura extended their condolences to the families who lost their lives in "this horrible bombing in Algeria."
