NEW YORK (Reuters) - Greg Maddux notched the 350th win of his 23-year major league career as the San Diego Padres beat the Colorado Rockies 3-2 on Saturday.

The 42-year-old held the Rockies to no earned runs over six innings to improve to 3-3 for the season in reaching the milestone on his fifth attempt.

The control-pitching Maddux, ninth on the all-time wins list, gave up three hits, one unearned run and did not issue a walk.

"I was never really too concerned with it," Maddux told reporters. "I was just trying to win.

"Three hundred was cool, getting a win in the playoffs was really cool. I don't want to make it out to be nothing but it's May and we're not doing too well," he said about the 13-24 Padres.

"Hopefully tonight will be the start of things to come."

Maddux, who enjoyed his best seasons with the Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs, is now four wins behind Roger Clemens on the all-time list.

Cy Young, who began with the now defunct Cleveland Spiders of the National League in 1890 and who also hurled for Boston of the American League among other clubs, tops the chart with 511 career victories.
