Paul Goydos and Sergio Garcia head into Sawgrass playoff

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Florida (Reuters) - American journeyman Paul Goydos and Spaniard Sergio Garcia took the Players Championship into a sudden-death playoff at Sawgrass on Sunday.

The pair finished the 72 regulation holes at five-under-par 283, overnight leader Goydos bogeying the par-four last for a 74 and Garcia closing with a 71.

It is the first playoff at the PGA Tour event since Britain's Sandy Lyle edged out American Jeff Sluman for the 1987 title.
