Dodgers outfielder Jones returns to disabled list
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed outfielder Andruw Jones on the 15-day disabled list because of patellar tendonitis in his left knee, the team said Tuesday.
The 31-year-old, who has suffered an injury-hit first season in Los Angeles, is eligible to return on August 25 when the Dodgers play the finale of a four-game road series against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Jones had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee on May 27 and missed 38 games while on the disabled list.
Signed by the Dodgers on a $36.2 million, two-year deal, he is hitting .161 with three home runs and 14 RBIs in his first season.
With Jones again sidelined, the Dodgers reinstated infielder Nomar Garciaparra from the 15-day disabled list.
Garciaparra, 35, last played on July 27 against the Washington Nationals before aggravating a knee injury. He is hitting .279 with five homers and 19 RBIs in 27 games.
