CHICAGO (Reuters) - A trespassing charge against U.S. actor Shia LaBeouf was dropped on Wednesday after prosecutors announced the drugstore in which he was arrested asked that the case be dismissed, the actor's lawyer said.

LaBeouf, a protege of director Steven Spielberg, was arrested in the early-morning hours of November 4 in a Chicago Walgreen Co. store after he refused several requests by a security guard to leave.

The guard told police he had asked the 21-year-old actor to leave because he seemed drunk. But police said LaBeouf was very courteous and polite at the time of his arrest.

LaBeouf appeared briefly in a Cook County courtroom, then slipped away without comment after prosecutors said Walgreen's had sent a letter asking to dismiss the case.

"He's grateful that it's over. He's on his way back to work," his lawyer Terry Gillespie told reporters.

LaBeouf has cultivated a squeaky-clean image while notching up roles in Spielberg-backed films such as "Transformers" and the upcoming "Raiders of the Lost Ark" sequel.
