HOUSTON, Jan 13 (Reuters) - Chevron Corp (CVX.N) reported flaring due to an equipment malfunction at its 260,000-barrel-per-day (bpd) Los Angeles-area refinery in El Segundo, California, on Tuesday, according to notices filed with state and regional regulators.

A pressure controller at the refinery malfunctioned, setting off the flaring, according to a notice filed with the California Office of Emergency Services. The controller was by-passed.

A notice filed with the South Coast Air Quality Management District in Los Angeles said an equipment breakdown triggered the upset.
