Chile budget won't pressure inflation-finmin
SANTIAGO, July 14 (Reuters) - Chile's next federal government budget will not pressure inflation, the country's finance minister told a Congressional commission on Monday, suggesting a conservative spending bill for next year.
Finance Minister Andres Velasco said the budget will "preserve social commitments but put in practice a fiscal policy that is 100 percent coherent with reducing inflation.
"The principle will remain the same: a responsible fiscal policy, which is sustainable, makes a social effort but is absolutely anti-inflationary, as it has been for decades," he added.
Early in the day Chilean Central Bank President Jose De Gregorio said there was continued upward pressure on the bank's benchmark interest rate and called for responsible fiscal policy. (Reporting by Rodrigo Martinez; Editing by Tom Hals)
