UPDATE 1-Fidelity parent buys Ambac, MBIA stakes--filings

WASHINGTON, Feb 14 (Reuters) - FMR LLC, the parent company the Fidelity mutual funds, reported on Thursday it owns 9.988 percent of the common stock in bond insurer Ambac Financial Group Inc (ABK.N).

The fund also reported in regulatory filings that it owns a 5.563 percent stake in bond insurer MBIA Inc (MBI.N) and a 5.426 percent stake in Countrywide Financial Corp's CFC.N common stock.

The fund did not provide additional details in the passive stake filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, such as when it acquired the shares or the purpose behind the acquisition. (Reporting by Karey Wutkowski; editing by Jeffrey Benkoe and Gunna Dickson)
