CORRECTED - Brazil retail sales rise 1.4 pct in Sept from Aug

SAO PAULO, Nov 14 (Reuters) - Retail sales volumes in Brazil BRRSL=ECI rose 1.4 percent in September from August, the government's statistics agency IBGE said on Wednesday.

The median forecast in a Reuters survey of 14 economists was for retail sales to have grown 0.7 percent. The estimates ranged from a decline of 0.1 percent in sales to a 1.4 percent expansion.

September retail sales rose 8.5 percent when compared with September 2006, the IBGE said. That was higher than the 7.5 percent median forecast of 25 analysts in the survey. Estimates ranged from 6.6 percent to 10.5 percent. (Reporting by Elzio Barreto)
