Moderate quake shakes central Chile, no damages

Sat Dec 15, 2007 2:29pm EST

SANTIAGO, Dec 15 (Reuters) - A moderate earthquake of 5.8 magnitude shook central Chile on Saturday, rattling some nerves in the port city of Valparaiso and the capital Santiago, but causing no damages, according to early reports.

The quake was centered 30 miles (48 kilometers) northeast of picturesque Valparaiso and occurred at a depth of 20 miles (32 kilometers) under the Pacific sea bed.

On Nov. 14, a 7.7 magnitude quake near Antofagasta collapsed homes and buildings, killing two people and injuring 115, and there have been a number of aftershocks since then.
