Ontario Pickering 4 nuclear plant back on-line

Mon Sep 15, 2008 4:48pm EDT

LOS ANGELES, Sept 15 (Reuters) - Ontario Power Generation's 515-megawatt Unit 4 at the Pickering nuclear power station was back online by Monday after shutting for maintenance just over a week ago, a report by the province-owned generating company said.

Unit 7 shut April 6 and will likely return in mid-September.

All of the other units were available for service.

The 3,090 MW Pickering station is located on the north shore of Lake Ontario in Pickering about 30 miles (48 km) east of Toronto. There are two 515 MW Units 1 and 4 at the A station, which entered service in 1971, and four 515 MW Units 5-8 at the B station, which entered service in 1983.

One megawatt powers about 1,000 homes in Ontario. (Reporting by Bernie Woodall)
