The board, comprised of 12 members from outside the central bank plus the governor and senior deputy governor, is not involved in monetary policy. Its duties are related to finance, human resources and administration.

Johnson, a lawyer, was premier of the province of Quebec for several months in 1994, representing the Liberal Party of Quebec. His father, of the same name, was premier of Quebec from 1966 to 1968. (Reporting by Louise Egan; Editing by Bernadette Baum)
