"We've been assured by the Department of Defense that we are not a target of the investigation," a Sara Lee spokesman said.

The maker of Hillshire Farms lunch meat, Sara Lee bread and other products did receive a subpoena in January for information on its dealings with Public Warehousing Co, the Army's primary food supplier, and has cooperated fully, Sara Lee said.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday that a Justice Deparment lawyer told a Washington, D.C., court that Public Warehousing was the subject of an investigation.
