Summers says U.S. banks not a topic at summit

PORT OF SPAIN, April 18 (Reuters) - White House economic adviser Larry Summers said on Saturday that the health of the U.S. banking system had not been a major topic at the Summit of the Americas meeting.

Summers said leaders had spent time focusing on what they could do to improve their economies rather than asking the United States what it could do to improve their respective economic situations.

Summers declined to comment on "stress tests" being conducted on major U.S. banks.

U.S. President Barack Obama is attending the summit in Trinidad and Tobago. (Reporting by Jeff Mason)
