NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - Catherine Keener is in final negotiations to reunite with Nicole Holofcener, who directed the actress in her previous three films.

The indie project, still untitled, centers on a group of New women who live in the same New York apartment. It is described as a look at friendship, old age and real estate.

Keener would play the main character, who has a cantankerous elderly neighbor. Both Keener's character, who owns the woman's apartment, and the woman's two granddaughters are in some ways waiting for the woman to die.

The script was completed before the Hollywood writers strike began last month, and the project is set to go into production early next year. No distributor is attached yet.

Holofcener and Keener previously worked together on 2006's "Friends with Money," 2001's "Lovely and Amazing," and 1996's "Walking and Talking."

Holofcener also has directed episodes of a number of hit television shows, including "Sex and the City" and "Six Feet Under." Keener is currently in theaters with "Into the Wild."
