FACTBOX: Dean threatens Mexico oil output, exports to U.S.

Mon Aug 20, 2007 9:40am EDT

(Reuters) - Hurricane Dean was forecast to slam into Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula Monday night and could cross into the Bay of Campeche, home to 70 percent of Mexican oil production, including the giant Cantarell oil field and the large Ku Maloob Zaap complex.

- Cantarell, one of the world's largest oil fields, produced an average of 1.570 million barrels per day in June, about half of Mexico's total crude oil production.

- Pemex reported in February that the nearby Ku Maloob Zaap field, which it hopes will partially replace declining output from Cantarell, was producing over 445,000 bpd.

- Pemex began evacuating more than 13,000 workers from its offshore facilities over the weekend and expected to complete its evacuations by 1600 GMT on Monday.

- Imports of Mexican crude oil by U.S. refiners have averaged 1.469 million bpd this year, the vast majority of which goes to refiners on the U.S. Gulf Coast.
