NEW YORK (Reuters) - New York State Gov. David Paterson checked himself into hospital on Tuesday with symptoms of a migraine headache and preliminary test results were normal, the governor's office said.

U.S.

"He is now resting comfortably and will undergo further tests during the course of the day," it said in a statement.

Elected lieutenant governor, Paterson ascended to the governor position in March when Eliot Spitzer resigned amid a sex scandal. The New York Times reported Spitzer was a client of a high-priced prostitution ring.

Paterson turned 54 on Tuesday. He is legally blind with only slight vision in one eye.

Last July, Paterson fainted briefly while traveling on a commercial flight. He was given oxygen on board, walked off the plane and was taken to hospital by ambulance. A wide range of tests were negative, officials said at the time.
