WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic presidential front-runner Barack Obama raised more than $31 million dollars in campaign donations in April, his campaign reported on Tuesday.

Barack Obama

The Illinois senator hauled in $31.3 million in April and had $37.3 million cash on hand, the campaign said in a monthly report filed with the U.S. Federal Election Commission.

The campaign released its financial report for April as the candidate awaited the results of the Kentucky and Oregon primaries. Clinton was projected to win the Kentucky race and Obama was favored in Oregon.

The results will give Obama a majority of pledged delegates won in the lengthy state-by-state nominating fight with rival Hillary Clinton.

The $31.3 million Obama raised in April was less than the $42.84 million his campaign brought in during March. However, the Obama campaign reported that it had 200,000 new donors in the past month and that 93 percent of its contributions were $100 or less.
