Shohet is currently head of strategy and mergers and acquisitions. He will remain a member of the bank's operating committee and report to Chief Financial Officer Gary Crittenden.

In the memo, Crittenden said Shohet will oversee a new, centralized North America treasury operation, the structure of which will be outlined in the next 30 days. Citigroup plans to review international treasury operations in the coming months and may reorganize them based on that review, Crittenden wrote.

Shohet received a bachelor's degree in economics from Princeton University and a law degree from Harvard Law School. A Citigroup representative confirmed the memo's contents. (Reporting by Jonathan Stempel)
