"Get Smart" stars in control of DVD spinoff

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - "Heroes" star Masi Oka and Nate Torrence, who are shooting a big-screen adaptation of "Get Smart," are set to reprise their characters for a direct-to-DVD sequel of sorts.

"Get Smarter: Bruce and Lloyd Out of Control" is being positioned as parallel content to the feature film, and will be released domestically 10 days after "Get Smart."

The story will at times cross over with the feature film and the direct-to-DVD movie might even recycle scenes from the feature. It is being put out by Warner Premiere, the new direct-to-DVD and direct-to-platform production arm of Warner Bros. Entertainment.

Oka will play Bruce, a techie at spy agency CONTROL, while Torrence is Lloyd, a geeky analyst. No director has yet been hired yet but the division hopes to shoot this summer, as "Get Smart" is wrapping up. Torrence is a regular on NBC's "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip,"

Oka also has booked a role on writer/director Steve Conrad's feature "Quebec," underscoring how in-demand the breakout star from NBC's "Heroes" has become on his hiatus.

"Quebec" wrapped production last year. Dimension Films was impressed with what it saw and has committed to filming additional scenes and new characters. In the movie, which stars Seann William Scott and John C. Reilly as two assistant managers vying for a top job at a grocery chain, Oka will play the new character of a realtor who is trying to get Scott to buy a house.
