CANNES (Hollywood Reporter) - Jonathan Demme has replaced Martin Scorsese as the director of a documentary about Bob Marley, with the project's backers attributing Scorsese's exit to "scheduling conflicts."

Demme, who recently shot the Neil Young documentary "Heart of Gold," is boarding the Tuff Gong Films/Shangri-La Entertainment project with the blessing of the Marley family, with son Ziggy Marley serving as an executive producer.

The as-yet-untitled film is being targeted for a global release February 6, 2010, the 65th anniversary of Marley's birth, the producers said.

Demme recently is currently editing "Neil Young Trunk Show," a new concert film about the versatile singer/songwriter. Scorsese was recently in theaters with the Rolling Stones concert movie "Shine a Light."
