Schultz, who returned as CEO of the gourmet coffee chain on January 7, received a salary of almost $1.2 million, options valued at nearly $8.6 million and "other" compensation of over $860,000, Starbucks said in its proxy filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Schultz, who founded Starbucks, was the company's chief executive from 1987 to 2000 and remained a force at Starbucks in his role as chairman.

Shares in the company have fallen on a slowdown in U.S. consumer spending and the company recently said it would close underperforming U.S. stores and speed up international growth.
