UPDATE 1-Mexico trade deficit rises to $728 mln in April

MEXICO CITY, May 23 (Reuters) - Mexico's trade deficit grew to a higher-than-expected $728 million in April, the government said on Wednesday.

Analysts surveyed by Reuters had forecast the April deficit at $350 million compared with a $417 million deficit in March.

Exports rose 6.9 percent compared with the same month last year, the government said, of which oil shipments were down 11.1 percent and non-oil exports up 10.8 percent.

Imports increased by 12.1 percent, with a 10.4 percent rise in intermediate goods, a 19.6 percent rise in consumer goods and a 13.8 percent increase in capital goods.
