AEP to restart Texas Welsh 2 coal unit Oct. 23-29

NEW YORK, Oct 23 (Reuters) - American Electric Power Co Inc (AEP.N) planned to restart the 528-megawatt Unit 2 at the Welsh coal-fired power station in Texas on Oct. 23-29, the company told Texas regulators in a report.

The company planned to shut the unit by Oct. 17-21 for maintenance on auxiliary equipment.

The 1,584 MW Welsh plant is located in Cason in Titus County, about 130 miles east of Dallas. The station has three 528 MW units, which entered service in 1977, 1980 and 1982.

One MW powers about 500 homes in Texas.

AEP's Southwest Electric Power Co subsidiary owns and operates the station.

AEP, of Columbus, Ohio, owns and operates more than 38,000 MW of generating capacity, markets energy commodities, and transmits and distributes electricity to more than 5 million customers in 11 states. (Reporting by Scott DiSavino; Editing by John Picinich)
