Magnitude 7.0 quake hits off Indonesia - USGS

WASHINGTON, Oct 24 (Reuters) - A magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck off Indonesia on Saturday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported, and Indonesia issued a tsunami alert.

Indonesia measured the quake's magnitude at 7.3.

The USGS said the quake, fairly deep at 92 miles (148 km), was centered in the Banda Sea, 138 miles (222 km) northwest of Saumlaki in Indonesia's Tanimbar Islands and struck at 11:40 p.m. local time (1440 GMT).
