Bank of Canada to adjust purchases at auctions

Mon Nov 17, 2008 3:22pm EST

TORONTO, Nov 17 (Reuters) - The Bank of Canada said on Monday it is adjusting its purchase of nominal bonds at auctions to help gradually bring its holdings of government debt in line.

The central bank said its ratio of treasury bill holdings to bond holdings has changed and is reflected in its balance sheet, due to "extraordinary transactions" that were designed to provide term liquidity.

The bank said it will now limit its participation at auctions of nominal 2-year, 5-year, 10-year and 30-year bonds.

The changes are effective immediately, the bank said. (Reporting by Ka Yan Ng; editing by Rob Wilson)
