Illinois and Michigan joined New York State in filing suit in U.S. District Court in Manhattan on Friday saying the company's pricing policy improperly prevented retailers from advertising prices below those set by Herman Miller thus limiting price competition for the chairs.

The "Aeron" chair has been one of the Zeeland, Michigan-based company's best sellers.

Herman Miller did not return phones calls and e-mails seeking comment. (Reporting by Emily Chasan, editing by Leslie Gevirtz)
