Mexican stocks fall on Televisa plunge; peso off

MEXICO CITY, July 24 (Reuters) - Mexican stocks fell in opening trade on Tuesday, hurt by losses in Televisa after the broadcaster posted a big drop in second-quarter profits.

The benchmark IPC stock index .MXX was down 1 percent at 31,844 points, while the peso currency MXN= MEX01 weakened 0.21 percent to 10.79 per dollar ahead of inflation data due at 9:00 a.m. (1400 GMT).

Televisa (TV.N)(TLVACPO.MX) shares slipped 1.95 percent to 58.25 pesos in opening trading. The broadcaster's second quarter profits dropped by 15 percent as advertising revenues plummeted.
