NEW YORK, Oct 24 (Reuters) - Computer maker Dell Inc (DELL.O) said on Wednesday it named Gilbert Casellas, former chairman of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, as the company's vice president of corporate responsibility.

Casellas will report to Don Carty, vice chairman and chief financial officer of Dell. Casellas will lead an organization that includes Dell's global diversity, sustainability and corporate giving functions.

Dell, founded in Michael Dell's university dorm room in 1984, became a world-leading personal computer maker by selling machines directly to consumers and businesses via the phone or its Web site.

Last month the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission settled with two of three Dell accountants it had accused of insider trading.

According to the complaint, the three accountants bought Dell put options while in possession of material, nonpublic information about Dell's financial performance for the second quarter of 2006. The SEC said they knew the company's results had not met expectations.
