OPPD Neb. Fort Calhoun reactor back at full power

Mon Aug 25, 2008 8:01am EDT

NEW YORK, Aug 25 (Reuters) - Omaha Public Power District's 478-megawatt Fort Calhoun nuclear power unit in Nebraska was back at full power early Monday, up from just 9 percent of capacity early Friday, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission said in its power reactor status report.

The unit, near Omaha, was taken off line late last week after workers discovered a duct boot that was out of place in the cooling system.

One MW powers about 1,000 homes in Nebraska.

In 2003, the NRC renewed the original 40-year operating license for another 20 years until 2033.

OPPD, of Omaha, owns about 2,500 MW of generating capacity and supplies power to 13 southeast Nebraska counties serving more than 310,000 customers. (Reporting by Eileen Moustakis; Editing by John Picinich)
