Executives bet imaginary $50 million in Latin America

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Executives taking part in the Reuters Latin America Investment Summit were asked where they would invest $50 million of their own money, other than in their company. Below are some of their answers:

Mexican tycoon Carlos Slim, the world's third richest man:

"You have to stay with infrastructure, but well diversified. It will continue to be important and profitable."

"Without knowing it well, I would say alternative energy is also interesting ... I like two things about alternative energy: First, it's renewable, and second, it creates a lot of employment."

Francisco Valim, CEO of Brazilian cable provider Net Servicos de Comunicacao:

"In Argentina, there's fantastic growth. ... I would also invest in Chile. I believe it's the United States transported. I'd run from Venezuela like the devil from a cross."

Argentine soy producer Los Grobos CEO Gustavo Grobocopatel:

"Brazil's food sector. Brazil is a fabulous market with fabulous potential."

David Sanchez-Tembleque, CEO of Mexican homebuilder Homex:

"I would invest in infrastructure, not so much highways but general services like electricity, water."

Telecom Argentina chief executive Carlos Felices:

"I'd put it in the telecom industry. In Argentina, it's a good opportunity."

Selene Avalos, CFO of Mexican homebuilder Urbi:

"Latin America by its nature has opportunities in infrastructure and tourism."

Oscar Schmidt, MetLife's Latin America head:

"I would divide the money between Brazil, Mexico, Argentina and something in Chile."
