NY-Philadelphia train service cut off, restored
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Amtrak train service between New York City and Philadelphia was halted nearly two hours on Wednesday due to a power fluctuation, creating delays that were likely to last for hours, Amtrak said.
The power problems also caused delays on New Jersey Transit commuter trains between New York City and New Jersey.
A sudden drop in voltage forced Amtrak, the only long-haul passenger rail service in the United States, to cut off service south of New York and north of Philadelphia from 12:15 p.m. to 2 p.m. EDT, Amtrak spokeswoman Tracy Connell said.
"We just wanted to hold them as a precaution. Everything is moving again. We will have some residual delays, probably throughout the evening," Connell said.
New Jersey Transit train service from New York's Penn Station to New Jersey was subject to 60- to 90-minute delays, according to the New Jersey Transit Web site.
