MEXICO CITY, April 26 (Reuters) - Mexico's economy expanded 2.7 percent in February compared with the same month last year, the government said on Thursday. That growth was slightly more than the forecast from analysts polled by Reuters.

The government said the services sector grew 3.6 percent and agriculture expanded 6.5 percent, while industry was unchanged from February 2006.

In the industrial sector, utilities grew 4 percent and mining expanded 0.2 percent, but construction shrunk 1.1 percent and manufacturing fell 0.1 percent.

Economic activity was up 0.2 percent in February from January, according to the monthly IGAE index, which measures the vast majority of Mexican economic output.

Mexico's economy grew 4.8 percent in 2006 but is expected to lose steam this year as the United States, its main trade partner, enters a slowdown.
