SANTIAGO, Oct 27 (Reuters) - Chile's banking system is healthy and solvent and able to fulfill its role as a provider of credit, even as financial turmoil rocks global credit markets, banks regulator Gustavo Arriagada said on Monday.

"The Chilean bank system is healthy ... We trust that the banking system is able to develop its role as a provider of credit under current conditions," he told reporters in the Chilean capital Santiago. (Reporting by Antonio de la Jara; writing by Pav Jordan, Editing by Chizu Nomiyama)
