UPDATE 1-UK's Hartlepool 1 nuclear reactor shuts again

LONDON, Jan 27 (Reuters) - British Energy's BGY.L Hartlepool 1 nuclear power reactor was stopped again on Tuesday for more work just two days after restarting from a 14-month boiler repair outage, a spokesman for the company said.

Data from energy network operator National Grid showed the 605-megawatt reactor in northeast England, which was closed from October 2007 until last weekend for boiler closure unit (BCU) repairs, was taken offline again on Tuesday evening.

"It is to carry out an adjustment which is not directly related to the BCUs," the British Energy spokesman said, adding that it was not unusual for minor extra work to be needed at a plant that had been out of service for over a year.

British Energy, like other power generators in Britain, does not comment on the likely restart schedule of its plants but the work required at Hartlepool is not expected to be long term.

The other 605-MW reactor at the power station has not been restarted since it too was closed in autumn 2007 because of age-related boiler problems. (Reporting by Daniel Fineren; Editing by Christian Wiessner)
