UPDATE 1-DynCorp quarterly profit falls

NEW YORK, May 28 (Reuters) - DynCorp International Inc (DCP.N) on Wednesday reported its fiscal fourth-quarter earnings almost halved, citing a protest related to a translation service contract that hurt its quarterly revenue.
The government contractor said its net income for the quarter ended March 28 was $9.8 million, or 17 cents a share compared with $18.9 million, or 33 cents a share in the year ago quarter.
It blamed the fall in earnings on a protest related to a linguist and translation services contract awarded in February to its Global Linguist Solutions (GLS) majority owned venture. It said the contract did not bring in additional revenue because a protest from the incumbent contractor resulted in a stop-work order by the GLS customer.
Total revenue rose 3.7 percent to $572.9 million from $552.3 million a year ago, primarily due to higher government services revenue, which was attributable primarily to construction projects in Africa and Afghanistan, it said.
It forecast earnings per share of $1.25 to $1.35 on revenue in a range of $2.83 billion to $2.93 billion for its fiscal year ending April 3, 2009, based on its current backlog and its estimates for future contract awards.
The company said that the guidance represented a significant increase from fiscal year 2008 results primarily due the impact from the GLS business. (Reporting by Sinead Carew; Editing by Louise Heavens)
