Rockies and Torrealba agree two-year contract

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Colorado Rockies and catcher Yorvit Torrealba have agreed terms on a two-year contract worth nearly $7 million.

Sports

Torrealba, 29, will receive a $500,000 signing bonus, a $2.75 million salary in 2008, and another $3.5 million in 2009, the team said Friday on its Web site.

A native of Venezuela, Torrealba hit .255 last season for the National League champion Rockies with eight home runs and 47 RBIs in 133 games.

The seven-year major league veteran is a career .251 hitter.
