(Reuters) - Democrat Al Gore has become one of the most successful failed U.S. presidential nominees.

Barack Obama

Here are some facts about Gore since he conceded defeat to George W. Bush in the 2000 White House race, a razor-close contest ultimately decided by a divided Supreme Court:

* 2001, concluding Bush is determined to block bids to curb global warming, travels worldwide giving slide shows he had earlier assembled on the threat of climate change.

* 2002, rules out running for 2004 Democratic presidential nomination; later decides against running for 2008 nomination.

* 2004, co-founds Generation Investment Management, devoted to proving the environment can be "integrated into a mainstream investment process in a way that enhances profitability."

* 2005, co-founds Current TV, a news and information cable and satellite network aimed at people in their 20s.

* 2006, writes a book, produces a documentary based on his slide show: "An Inconvenient Truth: The Planetary Emergency of Global Warming and What We Can Do About it."

* 2006, helps found the Alliance for Climate Protection, a nonpartisan, nonprofit advocacy group.

* 2007, movie version of "An Inconvenient Truth" wins an Academy Award; book version becomes a bestseller.

* 2007, wins the Nobel Peace Prize for campaign against global warming.
