LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Victoria Beckham has landed her first acting role on prime-time U.S. television, appearing as herself in an episode of the popular comedy "Ugly Betty," the ABC broadcast network said on Thursday.

Beckham, the fashionista wife of English soccer player David Beckham, will play a celebrity bridesmaid in an episode of the popular show based on life at a fashion magazine. The episode will be filmed in the autumn.

The "Posh" member of the reunited Spice Girls British pop group arrived in Los Angeles in July in a media blitz as her husband began a five-year contract with the Los Angeles Galaxy soccer team worth $250 million.

Victoria Beckham insisted she had no desire to launch a Hollywood career as an actress, saying she was devoted to expanding her fashion line, dVb Style. Earlier this month, U.S. publishers acquired rights to her UK best-selling style guide "That Extra Half an Inch" -- a reference to her love of high heels.

But the Beckhams have struggled to establish themselves in the United States as the mega stars they were in Europe.

Victoria Beckham's reality TV special chronicling her move to California and intended to showcase her humor and personality backfired amid mediocre ratings and damning reviews. David Beckham has been dogged by injuries that have kept him on the bench for much of his two months with the Galaxy.
