Actor Garrison gets prison for drunk driving death
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Actor Lane Garrison, who played an inmate on the television drama "Prison Break," was sentenced to three years and four months in prison on Wednesday for a drunken driving crash that killed a teenager.
Garrison, 27, pleaded guilty in May to vehicular manslaughter, drunken driving and providing alcohol to a minor after driving his Land Rover into a tree in Beverly Hills last December.
Two 15-year-old girl passengers were injured and 17-year-old passenger Vahagn Setian was killed. Garrison has said he met the teens at a store and was on his way to a party with them when the accident occurred.
Prosecutors said Garrison had a blood alcohol level nearly twice California's legal limit and was also under the influence of cocaine.
Garrison was sentenced in Beverly Hills Superior Court after psychological reports.
The actor, who has made a remorseful anti-drunken driving public service announcement, had faced a maximum sentence of six years, eight months in prison.
Garrison's "Prison Break" character, David "Tweener" Apolskis, was killed off the Fox TV drama earlier this season. The Dallas native's other credits include the 2006 film "Crazy" and this year's "Shooter."
He is the latest Hollywood celebrity to be put behind bars this year for driving under the influence offenses.
Paris Hilton served three weeks in jail in July for violating probation on drunken driving charges. Nicole Richie spent an hour in jail in August for driving under the influence of drugs, and actress Lindsay Lohan has been ordered to spend one day in jail before January 18 for cocaine possession and drunken driving.
