SAN FRANCISCO, Jan 31 (Reuters) - Electronic Arts Inc (ERTS.O) said on Thursday it expects to ship its highly anticipated video game "Spore" before the holidays, later than the spring timeframe expected by many in the industry.

"It's going to be before the holidays," Chief Executive John Riccitiello told analysts on a conference call when asked about the game's expected release.

EA said last May it could delay "Spore", in which players nurture microbes into a galaxy-spanning civilization, to its fiscal 2009 year beginning April 1, leading many analysts to expect "Spore" to arrive in the first quarter of fiscal 2009.
