backstroke)
 Three gold medals at 2005 World Championships (100m and
200m backstroke, 4x100 medley relay)
 Three gold medals at 2003 World Championships (100m and
200m backstroke, 4x100 medley relay)
 One gold medal at 2001 World Championships (200m
backstroke)
 One silver medal at 2007 World Championships (200m
backstroke)
 One silver medal at 2003 World Championships (4x200
freestyle relay)
 Previous Olympic results:
 Three gold medals at 2004 Olympics (100m and 200m
backstroke, 4x100 medley relay)
 One silver medal at 2000 Olympics (200m backstroke)
 Peirsol's younger sister Hayley has also represented the
United States in swimming. He is an ambassador for the
Surfrider Foundation which works to increase awareness of beach
and coastal environmental issues.
