Merrill Asia hires UBS exec for FX, rates unit

HONG KONG, Sept 24 (Reuters) - Merrill Lynch MER.N said on Wednesday it hired former UBS (UBSN.VX) executive Michael Halloran to head its fixed income, interest rates, currencies and commodities businesses in the Pacific Rim region.

The U.S. investment bank said he will start Sept 29 and be based in Tokyo, reporting to Tom Montag, head of global sales & trading, and Jason Brand, president of Pacific Rim.

Merrill said Halloran had been head of fixed income in the Asia Pacific for UBS. Previously he also worked for Salomon Smith Barney in New York, London and Tokyo as a debt trader. (Reporting by Jeffrey Hodgson; Editing by Ken Wills)
