(Reuters) - Factbox on Sammy Wanjiru (Kenya) who won the Olympic gold medal in the men's marathon on Sunday.

Age: 21 (date of birth: Nov 10, 1986)

Place of birth: Nyahururu, Kenya

Career achievements:

Runner-up, 2008 London marathon

Wanjiru, the half marathon world record holder, donated the bonus he received for breaking the mark in 2007 to a children's home where his mother works in his home town of Nyahururu.

He moved to Japan in 2002 to attend high school after winning a cross country selection trial in Kenya and now lives in the Japanese city of Fukuoka.
